Dedication held for home for abuse victims

Posted:

A new place in Goshen for families who are victims of abuse held a dedication Saturday. "The Little House that Ben Built" is almost ninety-eight percent completed.

Ben Roth took his own life four years ago after being physically abused as a child. This year his parents helped makeover a home so other victims of abuse would have a place to go to heal.

Ben's Father Scott Roth, "Because it was just so painful what we went through and so awful that we hope that others maybe because of this house won't have to."

The house will serve as a transition home for a family who has dealt with abuse. It will be fully furnished and have everything the family may need when they move in, including toothbrushes. Counseling will also be offered.

Most importantly the Elkhart County Women's Shelter said the home will provide victims of abuse time to regroup.

Carrie Zickefoose, the Director of the Elkhart County Women's Shelter said, "Their resources are very limited and they need the time to find employment, to re-establish themselves in the community, to really build themselves emotionally and personally."

When the house is completed a family will be chosen and then they'll be able to move in.
