UPDATE: Police arrest juvenile in connection with deadly Elkhart shooting

Elkhart Police say they have arrested a juvenile male in reference to the shooting at 250 W. Garfield Saturday night.

Saturday Police said 16-year-old Braxton Barhams was shot, he later died at the hospital.

Officers were dispatched to 250 W. Garfield about 6:45 p.m. Saturday.  Once they arrived police said they found Barhams, who was injured from the shooting.  Barhams was transported to Elkhart General Hospital.

FOX 28 spoke with neighbors on the scene who said they heard three shots.  A couple neighbors told us they saw someone lying in the street after hearing the shots.

We also talked with a few girls who said they were friend's with the victim.  They told us Barhams was the loud one in the group and they called him "Smurf."  They said they plan to make t-shirts in his memory.

Police closed Benham Avenue at Garfield to Indiana Avenue while they were investigating.
