UPDATE: Man in critical condition after hit-and-run in South Bend

A man is in the hospital after a hit and run accident on South Bend's west side.  It happened around 3:45 Thursday morning near the corner of North Olive Street and Bertrand Street.

South Bend Police Captain Phil Trent tells FOX28 News the parking lot was filled with people when several shots were fired.  Several people, including the victim, dropped to the ground.  A white vehicle then reportedly backed up and hit the 47-year-old man in head before taking off.

The man was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries. He is currently in critical condition.

Police do not know who fired the shots at this time, but are continuing to investigate.
