Shooting turns into street fight in South Bend

A busy weekend for South Bend Police.

Captain Phil Trent says a melee broke out outside a bar following a shooting early Sunday morning.

Police say it happened at Johnny Mac's bar in the 2,000 block of West Western Avenue around bar close.

Officers were only about a block away when they heard a gunshot.

When backup got to the scene there were about 200 people fighting in the street.

21-year-old Arsenio Smith was shot in the leg. He was treated and released from the hospital.

Four people were arrested, three for being involved in a bar fight that turned into a street fight.

The fourth, was arrested for having a gun, although that person is not the suspected shooter.

Trent says police have information on the shooting suspect that they are investigating.

This comes after another shooting late Friday night.

South Bend police are asking the public for helping finding three suspects who may have been involved in the shooting of a man riding a moped.

44-year- old Ernest Clark was shot near his home near Humboldt and Wilber.

Three suspects took off on foot from the scene.
