No one injured in house fire in Elkhart, investigators called in

Crews are battling a house fire in the 1800 block of Fieldhouse Ave near 19th. The call came in around 7:00pm.

The fire chief told FOX28 they arrived to smoke and flames coming from the house on Fieldhouse, between 18th and 19th streets. Most of the damage was to the back of the house, some windows along the side were blown out.

No one was home at the time, and no one was injured. The fire chief couldn't tell us how the fire started, but he did say investigators were called in to examine the possibility of a meth lab explosion. A neighbor says he heard six or seven small explosions when the fire broke out.

Neighbor Leonard Andersen said, "It's not shocking at all. I just have to say. We've had problems with the neighbors since we moved in over other issues. But we have smelled certain smells from there that weren't right. We have reported those to police before."
