Course golf pro's son wins Greater Elkhart Men's Championship

As Brody Fischer sank his final putt on the 18th hole of the Greater Elkhart Men's Championship, his father, John, could not help but smile, knowing his son had just won the amateur tournament.

John is the golf pro at Christiana Country Club in Elkhart, where the tournament was played, and his 20-year-old son was facing some of the best players in Elkhart County.

Coming into Saturday, Brody was trailing then leader Kyle Miller by two strokes. However, after an impressive final round, where he shot -4 on the day, Brody was crowned champion.

"I'm very proud," said John. "Brody's got a long way to go and he's got big dreams. Someday lets hope we're following him down the back nine of Augusta."

Brody had plenty of supporters along the course, but he was happy to have his dad there as he played the best round of golf of anyone in the tournament.

"It's awesome," said Brody. "I know it makes him happy too. I looked over after I made the last putt and saw a smile on his face. So it's always good when he's happy. He's been my inspiration through golf the whole time."

Brody finished the tournament -3, while Dan Hood and Kyle Miller tied for second at even par. Brody says being paired with those two in the final round motivated him to the win.

"It feels great [to win]," said Brody. "I played well all day. It feels great to come out and play against a great bunch of guys and I think it's the best field they have had here. The course is in great shape. Everything just feels so good to finally seal the deal."

Originally the final round was going to be played July 30th, but it had to be postponed because of inclement weather. Brody said the delay was nice to have because it let him refocus on the tournament.
