UPDATE: Ohio man dies after swimming mishap in Kosciusko County

Indiana Conservation Officers say an Ohio man died Monday after a swimming mishap on Big Chapman Lake Saturday evening.

Officers say 26-year-old Bradley Heyne of Coldwater, Ohio was swimming with friends Saturday at a sandbar when he dove head first off of a boat, striking his head on the shallow sandbar.

Other boaters quickly pulled the unresponsive Heyne to shore and performed CPR.

Heyne was taken a local hospital. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources say Heyne died Monday morning.

Investigating Conservation Officer Nathan Hooley reminds anyone recreating around the water this summer to be aware of your surroundings and to wear a personal flotation device whenever possible.

An earlier version of this story identified the location of the accident as being Lake Wawasee. DNR corrected the location on Monday to Big Chapman Lake.
