Elkhart woman's car stolen and set on fire in St. Joe County

An Elkhart woman is without her car after police say it was stolen and then set on fire in St. Joseph County.

People in Penn Township called the fire in around 11:15 Sunday night. The car was sitting on Ireland Road near the corner of Elm Road (State Road 331).

Police tell FOX 28 when emergency crews arrived on the scene no one was there. That led them to believe the car was stolen.

After running the car's license plate they discovered the owner was from Elkhart. She was notified overnight about the crime.

At this time police have not named any suspects in the case. If you know anything about this you're asked to give them a call. You can reach the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department by calling (574) 235-9611 or the Elkhart city Police Department at 293-4642.
