New Carlisle family loses home in weekend fire

Posted:

A New Carlisle family is without a home after a Sunday afternoon fire.

New Carlisle Fire Chief Josh Schweizer tells FOX 28 it broke out just before 3 o'clock on the 57000 block Rush Road, just south of State Road 2. By the time his crew got on the scene, Schweizer says the fire had already reached the attic. The home is being called a total loss.

Departments from six different departments across St. Joseph, LaPorte and Berrien County were called out for mutual aid. Investigators made it the scene shortly after the fire was put out, but at this time a cause has not been determined.

Schweizer says the homeowner was a six year member of the New Carlisle Fire Department before resigning recently.
