Officers participate in crime scene tech training

It's CSI, South Bend.

Some police officers who specialize in crime scenes took to the court room Monday.

They were training for court room testimonies.

Last year, officers participated in a mock crime scene and Monday they testified to the evidence they collected.

The training is intended to make the officers better on the stand, showcasing their methods, proficiency and skills in collecting evidence.

"So we want to make sure that the evidence that we collect is the best evidence that we can find and it's collected in the proper way so that when nit comes to court it is introduced as evidence in the court and can be used in the proceedings," Patrolman Paul Daley, South Bend Police Department.

The South Bend Police Department has 18 Crime Scene Technicians, including two recent grads of the Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigator Course at the Police Academy in Indianapolis.
