No criminal charges in LaPorte County home invasion

The La Porte County Sheriff's Office says their investigation into a deadly home invasion is closed. No criminal charges will be filed.

The investigation stemmed from a July 8th residential burglary and shooting that happened in the 6700 East block of County Road 1000 North.

After reviewing investigative reports and evidence summary from deputies, the county prosecutor concluded the victim, Stephen Penny, acted in self-defense when he shot Jason Rabe.

The investigation revealed that Rabe broke into the home of Penny and the two struggled. That's when Penny acted in self-defense and shot Rabe once in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
