Overnight garage fire threatens South Bend homes

Posted:

Two homes on South Bend's south side are safe thanks to firefighters, after they put out a garage fire late Tuesday night.

It happened on Fellows Street around 10 o'clock. Battalion Chief Nick Tekler tells FOX 28 that when his crew arrived on the scene, the garage was fully engulfed in flames. It was completely destroyed.

Luckily though, two nearby homes were spared. Tekler says the fire department put out the fire in less than 10 minutes, and that may have saved neighbors a lot of property damage.

"There were two homes that were close that the siding was starting to melt on," he said. "But we got a line on that right away."

Investigators arrived on the scene shortly after the fire was put out. So far they have not determined a cause for this one. Luckily, no one was reported injured in the blaze.
