UPDATE: Second person dies after multiple shootings in South Bend

Posted:

A second person has died after multiple shootings in South Bend over the weekend.  The St. Joseph County Coroner's office says 20-year-old Jarina Bailey has died.

Bailey was one of three women shot shortly before 11:30pm on Saturday.  Metro Homicide Commander Tim Corbett says two other women were also shot in the incident.  They are expected to recover.

Corbett says 29-year-old Dominique Jackson was also killed when he was shot while driving in the 1300 block of North Huey around 11:00pm Saturday.

Then, around 2:30 Sunday afternoon, police received numerous calls regarding shots fired on Vassar Street, near O'Brien. Corbett says more than a dozen rounds were fired near a yard where four children, under the age of ten, were playing on a swingset.

At this time, police do not believe anyone was actually shot.

Metro Homicide believes the shootings are gang-related and are working all the cases combined, but don't know if they are connected at this time.

Investigators will be doing a number of interviews throughout the day Sunday.

Corbett says if neighbors want change, they need to work with police and can do so anonymously. He says there were no thoughts by the cowards who are doing this and they "could have been tagging a child today."
