South Bend to host GreenTown conference

Posted:

The city of South Bend will host a conference, called GreenTown Michiana, designed to create a healthy, sustainable community.  It will be held at the Double Tree Hotel in Downtown South Bend, on October 10 & 11.

The conference is intended to encourage healthy choices for residents and help the city encourage sustainable businesses and other green endeavors.  "In addition to connecting the dots between government and the private sector, GreenTown fosters community sustainability planning and implementation," says co-organizer Gary Cuneen with Seven Generations Ahead.

South Bend Mayor, Pete Buttigieg, said this is an important step in promoting our city.  "Part of how we are setting ourselves apart economically is that we are showing we are a sustainable community,"  Buttigieg said, "that's just table stakes anymore, something you have to do if you want to be taken seriously in the region and in the broader competitive field.
