South Bend mayor speaks out against recent violence

Posted:

South Bend's mayor responded to the recent violence in the city, Wednesday. Two people were killed, and two others hurt in a string of shootings this past weekend.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg said it's important to bring together everyone from Federal Law enforcement to the faith community to solve the problem.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg said, "We believe that the group violence reduction strategy that we're applying can deliver a 30%-40% reduction in crime if we do it right.  That's the hard part.  People have to come to the table, work together, egos go out the door and we just get it done and that's what's been great about the anti-violence commission."

The Mayor said crime is actually down this year, but he stressed one shooting is one too many.
