Home opens for disabled in South Bend

Posted:

The Northeast Neighborhood of South bend has four new residents tonight and they are living in an eco-friendly home. Logan Community Resources and several other partners cut the ribbon on the new Logan Home on Campeau Street Thursday.

The building is now home to four residents with disabilities. The project was a partnership between Logan, the Northeast Neighborhood Revitalization Organization, the South Bend Heritage Foundation and the city of South Bend. Everyone is excited about the home and it's eco-friendly features.

Clint Bolser, President and CEO Logan Community Resources said, "Our philosophy at Logan is to do anything that we can to give people with disabilities, the opportunity to be integrated into a community setting and this is one way we do that."

Pat Lynch, an architect for the South Bend Heritage Foundation said, "The primary benefit is the cost to operate, you know, for Logan, but it will be extremely comfortable in the summer time.  Interesting to note, our workers here last week when it was extremely hot, the air-conditioning system wasn't hooked up yet, but it was comfortable in the house because of the amount of insulation we have."

There is a limited availability of accessible housing for the disabled. The home was constructed by Place Builders.
