United Way kicks off fundraising efforts

The United Way kicked-off their fundraising efforts for the year with food and fun at the Cove Thursday. The event was open to all United Way workers and campaign supporters.

The President and CEO of United Way in St. Joe County, Kay Ball said the event is a way of saying thank you to the community.

Since there are about 200 sponsors in the area, there were a lot of mouths to feed. Carraba's restaurant in Mishawaka supplied about 450 pounds of food for the event.

Rob Dylla, the Proprietor for Carraba's Mishawaka said, "We live in the community, we want to be part of the community, we want to give back to the community and that's what's really important to us."

United Way also said they are looking for new ways to give back to St. Joe County.

"This year we're just beginning some research on what it might be like to focus on one big community issue and then involve lots of community partners and sponsors and working together at that," said Ball.

The daytime celebration was followed by a Silver Hawks game in the evening to top off the night.
