Michiana grandmas zip across the river to send a message

Posted:

Good Friends Mary Beier and Joan Waite could sit back and relax in their retirement, but that's just not their style.  "We're dare devils," Joan says.

When they heard there was a chance to zip-line in Mishawaka they jumped right in line.  "I'm not nervous, no," Joan says.

These zip-lining grannies are sending a message.  "I'm showing my kids, grandkids and great grandkids to be adventurous," Mary says.

Also in line was Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood.  He came straight from work, still in his shirt and tie, to zip across the river.  He couldn't get enough.  We caught up with him before his second time down the line.  "It was a lot of fun," he says.  "I've got to tell you I didn't know what to expect but it's an entirely different view of the river than I'm used to.  It was very exciting"

With the wait nearly over for our pair of grandmas, there was only one thing left for them to do.  "To pray," Mary says as she laughs.

We caught up with them on the other side.  "It was fun.  It was great," Joan says.  "I was spinning, but I was enjoying myself a lot."

The zip-line was open to the public during "Family Zip Line Night" in Mishawaka.  It was a preview held the night before the Urban Adventure Games.
