Sick kids enjoy a Silver Hawks game with their families

Posted:

It was a big day for some special kids and their families at the South Bend Silver Hawks game.

The Starlight Children's Foundation hosted close to a dozen families at Coveleski Stadium. Each of the families have a critically or chronically ill child and Sunday they got to watch the game, run the bases and enjoy other fun activities at the stadium.

"It's priceless. It's a wonderful opportunity because when you have a child with special needs sometimes you don't take the opportunity to just take a break and sit back and enjoy," says mom, Cindi Sollars.

The parents say so much of their time is spent at doctors appointments and the hospital, which is why it's important to have a day of fun.

"It helps them be kids. Kids are supposed to play, that's the job of a child so it gives them a chance to do that and it's really fun for everybody," says Joan Steltmann, executive director of Starlight.

Even the Starlight's Foundation mascot made a visit to spend the day with the families.
