One killed in Starke County plane crash

A pilot is dead after a plane crashed at the Starke County Airport in Knox.

The Starke County Sheriff's Department says it happened at 2:50 pm Central Time Monday.

Deputies say the plane is a single engine RV-6.

When they arrived on scene, the plane was located about 20 yards off of State Road 8 in a cornfield. The pilot was dead on scene.

WKVI in Knox reports the pilot is a man. A cause of death is not known at this time.

WKVI says the crash happened as the plane came in for a landing. They're also reporting the plane was on its way to Oshkosh,Wisconsin from Virginia.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board has been notified of the crash.
