Benton Harbor Police are searching for Elliott Coates, age 17, of Benton Harbor, after two people were shot at a Benton Harbor Park. A warrant for Coates arrest was issued.

Police confirmed that two men were shot around 4:30pm after a small fight broke out in Broadway Park. Shortly after the fight, Coates returned with a handgun and started to shoot at the victims

A 17-year-old man was shot in the stomach in Broadway Park and a 16-year-old man was found shot in the arm while on Lavette St. Both victims were taken to a local hospital, but the conditions of the victims have not been released.

Coates is considered armed and dangerous and anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact Benton Harbor Public Safety Department Public Safety Detectives at (269) 927-8436.

Community leaders said what happened in Benton Harbor is "heartbreaking."

Reverend Maurice McAfeey, who lives near the park, arrived at the scene after learning about the shootings.

McAfeey said, "We have to become as a community more proactive.  We have to help curve things when we see them out of control.  I think more male presence in the community, whether it's pastors or people of influence.  I think sometimes when kids get a chance to see people of importance in their community talking with them, taking time with them, it gives them hope."

Police are looking to talk with anyone who has information on the shooter or shooters. If you can help call 269-927-8436.
