Four bids in for the former College Hall of Fame

The deadline for bids on re-use of the former College Football Hall of Fame was Wednesday. The building has been vacant since December when the hall left for its future home in Atlanta.

Scott Ford, the Executive Director of the Department of Community Investment confirmed that four bids had been received for use of the building.
"We received four exciting proposals yesterday, and we will be thoroughly vetting them over the next few weeks and anticipate making an announcement either the end of September or early October," said Ford.

City leaders have been working hard to get a buyer for the building.

Councilman Henry Davis, Jr. did have a few comments on what he'd like to see in a bid.

Davis said, "What we're looking at getting out of this bidding is whomever suggests this is a good idea will come in and be able to make a destination, a spot for people who want to see and come and hang out for what have you. However, South Bend needs to make an investment in this as well because of the way the mortgages are upside down. So we need to look at possibly giving the property away while also having incentives attached to it as well."

Davis said he hopes the city will find a long-term tenant to take over the mortgage.
