Local activist arrested at immigration rally

A South Bend woman went to jail in Washington D.C. tonight and she doesn't regret it all. Local Activist Jesusa Rivera was one of about forty people arrested in the nation's capitol during a rally calling for immigration reform.

Rivera said she was taken into custody after the protestors were warned not to block traffic. She also said the protest was disciplined and non-violent and it was meant to send a message to law-makers.

Rivera, a board member of the Indiana Organizing Project said, "I'm hoping that my message got across.  I'm hoping that our message got across.  It's important that they see this as, this is important.  This is important to us.  We're going to keep doing this and we're going to keep pushing forward until we actually get an immigration reform."

The group Rivera is working with is called Gamaliel.  They say it's time for a simple up-or-down vote on an immigration reform bill that will impact millions of families.
