Midget racing gives kids a head start in racing

Some young drivers are getting ready to show off their skills on the race track. The USAC Quarter Midget Races at Newton Park in Lakeville take place this weekend.

This program is for kids ages 5 to 16 to get their start in racing. Once they become a competitive racer they join a club or team.

Kyle McCain, Director for the USAC Quarter Midget said, "This is the foundation for motor sports, got this or go carts as a platform for kids to get into. What's cool about this program is that they can go from this to our Honda Ignite program."

Races kickoff at 9:00 Saturday morning and end Sunday afternoon. In addition to the races there will be face painting, barbecue and elephant ears.
