Family & neighbor share story of heroic dog

If you've ever had a neighbor with dogs that bark a lot, you may not always appreciate them, kind of like Pat Fenters in Osceola.  She says her neighbors' dogs weren't always the nicest, but now that has changed.

"Now that I've got them on my front porch they're nice and friendly now," said Pat. "They're loud, they're cute, I mean they bark a lot."

Pat is willing to accept the barking dogs now though, because that barking saved her neighbor's lives.  The Scheittecatta family's home was engulfed in flames Monday morning around 3:39am.

When their little dog, Ricky, smelled smoke he started barking, then his three puppies followed suit.  They woke up the family helping all five people in the home along with six dogs, and a cat are.  They are staying with Pat for the time being.

Ricky was rescued by the Scheittecatta family from an abusive home, where the owner would burn Ricky on his belly as a punishment. One member of the Scheittecatta family said she believes Ricky saved them because their family shows him love. She said you shouldn't hurt your animals because you never know when you might need their help.

All that's left of the Scheittecatta's home is a frame with a pile of rubble, but Pat agreed with the Scheittecatta's.  The most important thing is that "Everyone's safe, exactly."
