Plymouth's Mack Mercer Commits to Belmont

Plymouth High School Senior Mack Mercer tweeted his verbal commitment late Monday night.  "@mackmercer:  I'm so happy to say that I have officially committed to Belmont University!!!!! #Bruins"  The 6'9" forward had offers from Ball State, Saint Louis, Boston College, Indiana State and Belmont.  He had narrowed it down to BC, ISU and Belmont.  The Bruins won out Monday night.

"I've been talking to them for over a year now and really for this past month or two they have really expressed how much they really waned me," Mercer told FOX28 Tuesday afternoon. "I felt like that'd be the best fit for me going forward."

He played for the Eric Gordon All-Stars AAU team over the summer.  He has a 7 foot wing span and averaged over 19 points per game for the Pilgrims his junior year.  He can run the floor and is also a very good 3 point shooter.  While he'll be able to play with former Penn high school player Jeff Laidig, who also played for MBA Select, he'll remind some of former Bremen and Belmont player Adam Mark who also hailed from Marshall County. Mark played for Belmont from 2000-2004.  He led the nation in FG% at 70.8% his sophomore year.  At 6'9" He still holds the top 3 FG %'s for Belmont at 70%, 67% and 66%.

Mercer has that type of talent, but even better range from beyond the arc.

"Going [to Belmont] I think I might have a good opportunity to help at a younger age," said Mercer. "Hopefully I can do that, but I got to put in a lot of work and everything like that to have those opportunities."

He has size 14 shoes and once said he considered himself clumsy.  The fans in Nashville will see a hard worker from the same school that produced college and NBA player and coach Scott Skiles.
