Archaeology students busy digging in Niles

Local archaeology students were busy digging Thursday morning.  In Niles, students from Western Michigan University are trying to learn more about Fort Saint Joseph.

The Fort dates back to 1791 when it was used as a trading post for the French and Native Americans.  Students say they are excited to get a hands on lesson with history.

"Ya know there is just something really magical to me about finding an artifact in the ground that someone hasn't seen or touched for hundreds of years and its a wonderful feeling to hold that piece of history in your hand," says Aaron Howard a WMU student.

Students say the work they are doing in Niles will help future studies.
