State trooper attacked during traffic stop

A routine traffic stop north of Plymouth turned violent Thursday night, when a person reportedly attacked an Indiana State Trooper.

Indiana State Police say a trooper spotted someone driving erratically around 10:00pm.  During the stop, the trooper says he saw "marijuana residue" on the shirt of a passenger in the car. The man, 33-year-old Travis Simpson of Plymouth, was searched and marijuana was reportedly found in his shirt pocket.

Simpson was handcuffed.  While being questioned, the trooper says Simpson head butted him. Simpson reportedly continued to yell threats as he was subdued. Both of the men had to be treated on the scene by medics.

Simpson is facing preliminary charges of Battery, Intimidation, Resisting Law Enforcement, Public Intoxication, and Possession of Marijuana.  He is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail.
