Concord Minutemen have their heads held high going into season

The end to Concord's 2012 season was heartbreaking.

The Minutemen didn't need a minute, they just needed a couple of seconds and they might have been headed to Indianapolis for the State Championship instead of Mishawaka.

However, a Mishawaka field goal as time expired in the Semi-State final was the difference in the 24-21 win for the Cavemen.

Concord heads into 2013 with their heads held high. The rough moment is long in the past for them now and they're ready for big things this year.

"I'm extremely proud of our players, the attitude they've had and the excitement that we've brought in so far this year." said head coach Tim Dawson. "As of right now we're still undefeated, so that's a good thing."

The players say one thing that has really stood out to them so far in practice has been the camaraderie.

"We're one team," said senior wide receiver Adam Glanders. "We always say one heart beat and we really are one big family. We all pull together even through adversity. We just pull together as a team and that's what I like about us."

The Minutemen senior class will have an opportunity to be the first in school history to win conference titles all four years according to coach Dawson. The seniors credit that to a winning attitude that was preached early on in their careers.

"We used to have years back where we didn't have very many wins," said senior lineman Steven Gattman. "[Winning] is just instilled now into our minds that we're expected to win now. It's part of the program."

Concord hopes to pick up their first win of the season at Washington High School against the Panthers on Aug. 23.
