Bagpipe performers rock out at Lerner Theater

A crowd was rocking out at the Lerner Theater, to "Bagrock". Something one band says is a fusion of bagpipes and rock music.

The band Red Hot Chili Pipers have been touring the country and Sunday they made their first ever trip to Elkhart, all the way from Scotland. And their lead instrument? The bagpipes.

"It doesn't have to be thought of as an ancient instrument. It can be contemporary and it can be used in a fun and energetic way and hopefully that message comes across in our performances and our music in general," says band member Steven Black.

They combine bagpipes and covers from popular songs of all genres. And an 11-year old fan and local performer got to join the band on stage. Liam McCrindle has been playing for 2 years and Sunday was his biggest performance ever. "It was fun and scary."

The band will continue touring through August before heading back to Scotland.
