UPDATE: Goshen vacant building fire deemed arson

Goshen fire investigators say the fire at a vacant building on US-33 late Monday night was intentionally set.

Firefighters had to dodge lightning as they battled a fire on U.S. 33 late Monday night.  They were able to get it out fairly quickly but stayed on the scene for a few hours to put out the hot spots. Officials estimate the damage at $150,000.

Firefighters say when they got on the scene there were no flames shooting from the building, but plenty of smoke was pouring out.

They're just glad no one was hurt battling the fire.  "The storms are always a concern, especially when you have the ladder truck up," said Chief Inspector Mike Happer. "You're always afraid for lightning strikes and fortunately we didn't have any accidents out there so everything's okay."

Anyone with information on who may have set the fire, should call the Fire Investigators at 574-875-4315, Goshen POlice at 574-533-8661, or the Arson Hot Line at 1-800-382-4628.  Information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward up to $5,000.
