Silver Hawks set attendance record during winning season

Posted:

The Silver Hawks marked a milestone this year by setting a new attendance record.

Over 198,000 people packed the stands to see the team play this season, up from 189,000 fans last year.

The team credits opening night and the July 3rd Independence celebration, as well as having 17 sellout games.

But that's not the only reason the Hawks have reason to celebrate.

So far, the team has won 74 games-- the most wins this season of any professional baseball team, minor or major.

Team president Joe Hart says he's excited to see fans from all over the region come to the Cove to watch the winning team and he's excited for a trophy potentially coming back to South Bend.

"The way the team's playing, we have a legitimate shot to win the Midwest League championship this year," Hart says. "That's really the only thing that's missing, that could cap off this tremendous season."

The last time the Silver Hawks won the Midwest League Championship was back in 2005, although they did make the playoffs in 2009.

As the team celebrates their winning season, you too could also celebrate a big win. If you're the 5 millionth fan to walk through the gates at the Cove on Saturday, you'll win a trip for 4 to Disney World! The Silver Hawks are only 586 fans away from that magic number.

Including this Saturday's game, the team has 10 games left in the regular season. Playoff games kick off right here in South Bend on September 5th.
