Drunk driving deaths down in St. Joe County

Drunk driving fatalities are on the rise in Indiana, according to a new report.

That report, from a criminal justice research center at Indiana University, shows there was a 13-percent increase in alcohol-related driving deaths from 20-11 to 20-12

Although the numbers for the state have gone up, St. Joseph County has actually seen a 50-percent decrease in the number of drunk driving deaths.

Lt. Tim Williams with the Mishawaka Police Department says, "We see our citizens being responsible, making the right choice and our community is benefiting from it because we're not having to go through all those tragic events."

Lt. Williams attributes the falling number of drunk driving fatalities to teamwork within the community.
