Posted:

(Elkhart County, IN)  Updated 6:40 p.m. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says a standoff at a home in the 59000 block of Melrose Place has come to an end.  Deputies say Richard Doerscher, Jr. was taken into custody and transported to the Elkhart County Jail.

A spokesman says Doerscher, Jr. set several small fires in the home before the standoff ended.  We're told a 35-year-old woman and a two-year-old child escaped the home before SWAT arrived on the scene around 2:00 p.m. Friday.

Several Concord Community Schools were placed on lockdown for a short time during the standoff, but the lockdown was lifted and the deputies say the neighborhood is now safe.

(Elkhart County, IN) -- Several Concord Community Schools were placed on lockdown Friday afternoon due to a domestic dispute in a nearby neighborhood that has now turned in to a standoff.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says the call about the domestic dispute between a man and a woman came in from a home in the 59000 block of Melrose Place around 2:00 p.m. Friday. The situation is now a standoff. Police say negotiators are now on the scene trying to resolve the standoff.

Concord High, Intermediate and Junior High Schools are all nearby. They were placed on lockdown as a precaution. A person who answered the phone at the district could not confirm if the schools were still on lockdown, but parents tell FOX28 students have been released.
