Indiana unemployment remains steady in July

Posted:

Indiana's unemployment rate remained steady at 8.4% in July, even as the state gained 5,900 jobs in the month.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says the state added 10,800 Trade, Transportation and Utilities sector jobs, the largest one-month growth in the sector since 1990.

Private employment in the state was 2,525,600 in July, the highest since 2,530,600 jobs were recorded in July of 2008.

Locally, every county in the area saw unemployment numbers dropped, including Fulton  and Kosciusko Counties which each dropped .5%. Among local cities, only Mishawaka saw an increase, up just .1% to 9.6% in July.

Indiana is still above the national unemployment rate of 7.4%. The Labor Department says unemployment rates increased in 28 states, were unchanged in 14 and fell in eight states - the fewest to show a decline since January.
