South Bend continues to go green

The city of South Bend is keeping on track with its mission to be more green.

The city received a reimbursement check for installing L-E-D lights at three downtown parking garages.

The check is from Energizing Indiana. The bulbs will save the city money on utilities too!

They have sensors that only turn them on when they're needed.

"We've got to be. Every city is judged on how sustainable it is," said South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg. "It's a part of what it means to be a city in 2013. And when you add in the fact that we're going to see savings..that makes better use of taxpayer dollars."

The mayor says the money saved by using the new lights can then be used in other programs. One of those programs is the problem with abandoned homes.
