Backpacks and school supplies handed out at Niles Salvation Army

Over two hundred backpacks were given out to needy students Tuesday, at the Niles Salvation Army.  The backpacks were filled with school supplies, a stuffed animal, books, and a bible.  The backpacks were available to first through twelfth grade students on a first come first serve basis.

The Director of Caring Ministries and Social Services, Jan Nowak says getting kids the tools they need for a fresh start is important.  "Everybody likes something new," Nowak said, "and what a grand way to start a new year.  New supplies, new materials, fresh stuff, sharp pencils, notebooks that don't have last years notes in them.  It makes our young people feel special."
