Teacher accused of sending inappropriate texts sentenced

The teacher convicted of having inappropriate text conversations with a 12-year-old former student will serve 90 days in custody.

Eric West, 31, of Osceola was a 5th grade teacher at Walt Disney Elementary School.  He pled guilty to Inappropriate Communication With A Child in July.

On Tuesday, West was sentenced to 1 year, with 275 days suspended and credit for two days served.  The prosecutors office says he will serve his sentence in home detention under the supervision of St. Joseph County Community Corrections.

West will be on administrative probation for 275 days after being released and must submit to a mental health examination.
