UPDATE: Golf course fire in Cass County was arson

Posted: Updated:

An early morning fire at Hampshire Country Club near Dowagiac has been classified as arson.  The fire broke out early Wednesday morning at a golf course in Dowagiac.

Golf Course Manager Lori Wells says it broke out around 2:30 a.m. inside the cart shed at Hampshire Country Club, which is located on the 29-thousand block of Pokagon Highway, south of the city limits.

Wells says 120 carts were destroyed in the blaze.  She credits firefighters with saving the clubhouse next door.  Fire crews sprayed down the clubhouse at the same time they were fighting the shed fire, keeping the fire contained.

Fire officials are offering an up to $5,000 reward for information regarding the fire. If you have information call the Cass County Sheriff's Department at (269) 445-2481.
