Marshall County Doubling Down on Efforts to Combat Meth

Indiana State Police have released statistics showing a breakdown of the number of meth labs busted in each county in 2012.

Three local counties made the top 10.  They include Kosciusko, Elkhart and Marshall Counties.

A meeting was held in Plymouth Tuesday about dealing with the meth problem.  It was organized by the group Northwest Indiana Meth Watch.

Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter spoke at the meeting.  "We have to stop the homemade labs," he told the crowd.  "Somebody asked about heroine.  They're not making heroine in my neighbor's house, that he is going to blow up in my neighbor's basement and kill that neighbor's child.  That's the difference in my opinion."

Marshall County Prosecutors have been aggressively prosecuting meth cooks.  They've taken a hard line when it comes to sentencing.

There is also an online petition encouraging legislators to ban the sale of over the counter Pseudoephedrine in the state of Indiana.

Speakers during Tuesday's meeting said such a ban would help reduce the meth problem in the county.
