Northern Mishawaka drivers to deal with traffic delays

Posted:

Although the unofficial end of summer has come and gone, it is not the end of road construction season for northern Mishawaka drivers.  Road construction started Tuesday on three heavily traveled roads, Grape Road, Gumwood Road, and Capital Ave.

Grape Road will be restricted to one lane in each direction between Day Road and Edison Lakes Pkwy for asphalt resurfacing.  Through traffic is encouraged to use Main Street instead of Grape Road.  The road is expected to be reopened to unrestricted traffic at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5.

The southbound lane and center turn lane of Gumwood Road will be restricted between Gumwood Crossing Drive and Cleveland Road for fiber installation.  One lane of northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained during this work.  The daily work schedule will be 7:00am to 6:00pm  Weather permitting, this restriction will be removed on Thursday, September 12.

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced lane restrictions on Capital Avenue between Douglas Road and the Indiana Toll Road.  Crews will be patching the roadway.  This will be a mobile operation working northbound on Capital Avenue from Douglas Road to the Indiana Toll Road.  Crews will then work southbound to Douglas Road.  At least one lane in each direction will be open during this work.

Drivers are encouraged to plan for delays and use caution when driving in construction zones.
