Mishawaka Common Council OK's hotel in Heritage Square

The Heritage Square shopping center in Mishawaka looks to be getting a new tenant.

The Mishawaka Common Council paved the way for construction to begin at its meeting Tuesday.

Property Owner, Holladay Properties says it will be a four-story, 101 room Hampton Inn and will sit just to the west of Martin's Supermarket.

The company says a hotel has always been part of the plan for Heritage Square since it was built in 2006.

"As we all know, the economic market took a turn, our conceptual idea continued to remain and over the past year, we've been working on the plans and specifications and we are nearly completed with those," says Senior Vice President of Holladay Properties, Manette Tepe.

Businesses in Heritage Square and Toscana Park say they're excited about the hotel and hope it drives up business.

"The last couple years I've seen business pick up so it's been encouraging from an economic standpoint, so I think having more foot traffic with the hotel will just add to that uptick in growth," says Edward Tapia, who owns Foot Solutions in Toscana Park.

Holladay Properties hopes to break ground on the Hampton Inn in a month and believes it will be open for business by this time next year.
