IREAD3 results improve slightly in second year

Third-grade students in Indiana saw a slight increase in reading comprehension in the past year.  Statewide results were released Wednesday for the IREAD3 test

"I want to thank the many educators and families who are making reading proficiency a priority throughout Indiana," said Glenda Ritz, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction.  "I am committed to a strong focus on literacy K-12, which is a key indicator of student success."

The data showed that 91.1% of test-takers passed either the spring test or the summer re-test this year.  That is a .5% increase from 2012's results.

2012 was the first year of IREAD3 testing.  The assessment began as part of Public Law 109 that "requires the evaluation of reading skills for students who are in grade three beginning in the Spring of 2012 to ensure that all students can read proficiently before moving on to grade four."
