City leaders continue anti-violence push in South Bend

South Bend City Leaders continue their push to combat gun violence in the city.  The Anti-Violence Commission met with the Common Council Wednesday night.

The group is focused on crime reduction strategies they learned during a trip to New York.

The plan is to implement "call ins." That's where they approach and explain to the most violent groups, the consequences of committing violent crimes and ways they can keep themselves out of trouble.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg says, "In the cities that have done this right, it can lead to a 30% to 40% reduction in gun violence, but that requires a lot of alignment, a lot of coordination."

The mayor also says crime is down this year, but he wants his administration and the police department to stay ahead of the problem.
