Elm Road Elementary in Mishawaka had a scary situation this morning.  School officials found a knife in a student's backpack.

Officials searched the backpack after the student reportedly made a threatening comment.  The student hadn't taken the knife out before it was found by officials.

PHM Director of Safety and Student Services and the student's parents have been notified.  The school says the student has been disciplined.

Principal Lisa Soto says parents should talk to their children about school safety and to "report and unsafe behavior to an adult."
