9/11 inspires blood donations

Honoring 9/11 victims by donating blood.

That's what several people did in South Bend Wednesday.  The fire department held a blood drive in conjunction with the South Bend Medical Foundation.

Officials say the memory of 9/11 inspires people to donate.

"It's important for us to keep the local blood supply plentiful so that way in the case of emergencies folks can get transfusions, its truly a life-saving way that ordinary citizens can help out," says Chief Stephen Cox of the South Bend Fire Department.

Everyone who donated blood received a small plant in the memory of 9/11 victims.
