Benton Harbor prepares for 9/11 artifact

Benton Harbor is preparing for a piece of history.

A 550 pound steel beam from the World Trade Center will become part of a new memorial in front of the Benton Harbor library.

It's making it's rounds throughout Southwest Michigan, but it will be a permanent fixture in Michiana. Wednesday, over 30 AmeriCorps and American Red Cross members worked on the landscaping where the new memorial will go. American Red Cross Representative, Breeze Ettl says the community should feel privileged to receive this piece.

"This memorial will signify hope, resurrection, people coming together and the community rebuilding. I hope people in this community will remember and reflect about that day and then remember all of the first responders," says Ettl.

This artifact is one of three in Michigan.
