SB chronic problem homes ordinance is moving forward

The South Bend Common Council is moving forward on plans for the new chronic problem home ordinance.

They hope this ordinance will decrease police responses to problem properties. It will help owners get rid of problems AND give police more time for other calls. Complaints will be recorded and if a property goes over the allotted number, owners could be fined.

The start date is around the corner and the last details are coming together. "The steps right now are just finalizing different documents that would have to be sent out to various owners on the properties that are labeled as nuisance properties," says South Bend Police Officer Deenan Lane.

The ordinance will go into effect October 15.
