Excitement builds as Silver Hawks play for Championship

Posted:

The rain couldn't stop the excitement at the Silver Hawks game Wednesday.  The team played the first game of the Midwest League Championship Series.

Fans are now on the edge of their seats as the Silver Hawks play for the Midwest League Championship.  Jerry Burton said, "Monday's game was so fantastic and now they're in this championship we just wanted to see how well they did."  Kathy Doughman said, "It's just getting better and better."

Silver Hawks President Joe Hart said the excitement level can bee seen in the attendance numbers.  "Typically in minor league baseball when you get to the play offs if can be hard to attract people.  You got school back in session, football started back up but the community's come out and supported us.  In our first playoff game we had over 3500 people here. "

Hart said it's noticeable outside the ball park too.  "There's been a ton of excitement.  You walk into a store and people see a Silver Hawks shirt on and they're like hey good luck! or we're going to the game!  That's awesome cause when I first moved to town two years ago I could wear Silver Hawks stuff and people didn't say anything."

And if you think there needed to be another reason for all the excitement, Hart said the team has impeccable timing with their winning season.  "There'd be nothing worse that if we do all these improvements and the team was in last place."

Unfortunately, the Silver Hawks did lose their game Wednesday 3-2.  They'll play again Thursday at the Cove.  That will be the last game of the season at The Cove.  The team will have their usual Thirsty Thursday promotion as well as Fireworks.
