Rees, Daniels lead Irish past Purdue in 4th quarter for a ND win

For three quarters it looked like Purdue could pull off an upset over #21 Notre Dame, but Irish quarterback Tommy Rees and wide receiver DaVaris Daniels changed that quickly.

Heading into the forth Notre Dame (2-1) trailed the Boilermakers 10-17, but Rees found Daniels just 13 seconds into the quarter for a 9-yard-touchdown to tie the game.

Notre Dame's next possession could not have gone much better for the Irish. The first play of the drive Rees hooked up with Daniels for an 82-yard-touchdown to give ND a 24-17 lead.

Defensive captain Bennett Jackson sealed the game for Notre Dame with an interception for a touchdown in the final quarter. Purdue (1-2) would score once more, but Notre Dame held on for the 31-24 win.

Rees finished the game with 303 yards passing and the two touchdown passes to Daniels, who had 167 yards receiving on the night.

Purdue quarterback Rob Henry had 256 yards and 3 touchdowns on the night, but his interception to Jackson was enough of a difference. Akeem Hunt finished the game with 94 total yards and one touchdown.

Notre Dame leads the all-time series against Purdue with a record of 57-26-2.

Notre Dame plays Michigan State next Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium, while Purdue will travel to Madison, WI to play the Wisconsin Badgers.
